It is consequently a very little known science-fact that in August 1978, Tom Baker (aka Dr Who number 4) spent just over an hour locked in a BBC prop cupboard. Having incarcerated the Doctor and pocketed the keys to the Tardis, MC/Producer Jneiro Jarel, donned some tastefully pimped out thread and sneaked off on a beautiful cosmic adventure through time and space. Breezing through enchanted Brazilian rainforests c.1962, lounging on planets that never even appeared on the show. He even spent a couple of days coordinating a dance workshop for cybermen in 2012. Dr Who Dat? basically energised an entire parallel universe with drums, trumpets and various vocals, all cut to perfection using re-engineered Dalek lasers, pro-scratch mixers and brightly coloured computers that run on sugar cane.
Dr Who Dat?’s first album on Lex is consequently called Beat Journey and though he claims to have written and produced the album from his studio in Philadelphia, influenced by his time in Houston, Maryland, Arizona, Georgia and NYC, we know this album is in fact just an excerpt of audio taken from the Tardis’ black box recorder.
In a previous incarnation, Dr Who Dat? also made an excellent album called Three Piece Puzzle on Dutch label Kindred Spirits.
After a Brazilian influenced summertime intro on Lex, Jneiro Jarel is set to unleash his latest rap album project with his new group Shape of Broad Minds entitled Craft of the Lost Art.
Featuring fellow Texan Jawwaad and Jneiro's own alter egos, Dr Who Dat?, Panama Black, Rocque Wun representing Houston, Brooklyn and Phily, both coasts and the depths of his wild imagination.
It's a magical mystery tour of fat drums, massively lush synths and jazzier spliced beats and did we mention guests include Count Bass D, Q-Tip, and MF DOOM?!
